Welcome to Acorns!
We are the youngest members of Oakley Primary Academy and share our classroom with Saplings.
Our teacher is Miss Randell and we have Mrs Flint and Mrs Green who are amazing at helping us in the classroom with everything we do.
We provide a positive, caring, safe and stimulating environment, following children’s interests through activity-based topics. We are active learners, exploring the world through a range of indoor and outdoor experiences, always bringing along our wellies so we can experience the different types of weather!
When we achieve great things (in our work or living our school values), we can move our pegs up the achievement ladder. If we get to ‘outstanding’, we get a golden ticket to place in the prize box. On Fridays, we pick two tickets to win a class prize.
PE is on Thursday each week. We keep our PE kit in school and are encouraged to be independent when changing in and out of our school uniform.
Spring Term 2019
This term In Early Years our topic is Magical Mysteries. We will be embarking on a magic journey exploring Julia Donaldson stories such as The Gruffalo, The Gruffalo’s Child, Room on the Broom and Zog. We will focus on being able to read and write phonetically and identify high frequency words.
During Chinese New Year we will be making our own large scale dragons and then, after the half term holiday we will continue our magical adventure with the story Paper Dolls. This will lead us on to making our very own fairy doors which we will position around our setting (inside and out), enabling us to write letters to our little magical friends. Hopefully they will reply!
In Physical we are continuing with our weekly Gross Motor Disco and beginning Gymnastics, using mats and benches. We will also be focusing on fine motor activities with weekly Funky Fingers activities and work on pencil control and handwriting patterns.
As Spring arrives we will welcome some eggs which we will look after carefully until they hatch. We will be growing our own grass and planting real herbs in our mud kitchen.
Maths will see us exploring weight and capacity and counting reliably with numbers 0-20, putting them in order and saying which is one more/one less. We will be doubling, halving and sharing and adding and subtracting two single digit numbers.
